This body of work addresses the variety of opinions that exist when discussing the 'norms' inherent in our society. Each one of these individuals has responded to an ad that I placed on craigslist looking for people who feel as though they hover on the edge of society. They do not feel as if they belong. What is particularly interesting about the people who responded to the ad is that they are judging themselves according to their own preconceived perceptions of what defines normal. And in fact often times these individuals may appear not that far out of prexisting norms. What I wanted to address in this work is the idea that normalcy is a socially constructed concept. Although there are certain norms that are seen as universal, others are subject to change and vary depending on current stereotypes and trends.

All of these images are shown accompanied with audio. The interviews were not controlled through specific questions because it was important that the subjects responded freely in order to avoid participant bias.

Ultimately, what I want to express through this work is my belief that, without bias and judgement, normal would cease to exist.
